빌 에반스의 리더로서 세 번째 앨범이었고,

재능 있는 베이시스트 스콧 라파로와 함께한 에반스의 첫 번째 LP 작업이었다.

에반스-라파로-모티안 트리오는

1961년 2월 2일 두 번째 스튜디오 앨범인 'Explorations'를 녹음했지만,

1961년 6월 25일 뉴욕 빌리지 뱅가드에서 클럽 녹음으로 절정에 이르렀다.

라파로는 녹음 후 몇일이 안되어 1961년 7월 6일 25세의 나이로 교통사고로 세상을 떠났다.
